FACT 10th National Meeting Logan Wright Advocacy Award Dr. Bill King, First Recipient Several years ago, FACT invited Dr. Logan Wright to be the main speaker at our National Meeting in Washington, DC. Dr. Wright spoke about advocacy. He was a past president of the American Psychological Association (APA) and a founder of the American Psychology Society, when many psychologists felt that APA was becoming too dominated by practitioners or clinicians. He also founded the Northamerican Association of Master’s in Psychology (NAMP), recognizing that they were being treated as second-class citizens within APA. NAMP is also a member of the Fair Access Coalition on Testing. Logan semi-retired from the University of Oklahoma to his ranch, where he suffered a heart attack and died in December 1999. Because of the outstanding advocacy and sage advice he gave to FACT, we at FACT have decided to name our first award in Logan Wright’s honor. Because of his tireless, creative, and effective advocacy on behalf of fair access in Indiana, in the face of considerable opposition from organized psychology in his state, we awarded our first Logan Wright Advocacy Award to Dr. Bill King, on January 14, 2002.
